Details in Softgoods

Ever since I was a little girl, I can remember our monthly trips to the local Hancock Fabrics in Jackson, Mississippi. At the time, I would amuse myself, while mom was shopping, and meander through the bolts of fabrics, trims, and buttons hanging all along the perimeter of the tin building. I couldn't get over the variety of options, and magnitude of designs available to choose from in the half hour that we were there.

As I was sharing with my mother a little over a month ago how happy I was to finally have my own business, she did not come across as surprised, but relieved. She said "Honey, you have always dreamed of having your own business." It occurred to me that she was right, as she began sharing very detailed memories of me rolling coins while watching a Disney movie (for fun), or begging my friends to play cashier with me as if they were checking out at the grocery store.

This past week I was sitting at my desk working on taxes and pricing out a few items for some clients, when I caught myself with a smile on my face. An epiphany. I was doing what I had always dreamt of doing. With a two month business anniversary quickly approaching, I feel more than blessed to have such amazing clients to work beside everyday.

On Friday, I had the pleasure of selecting fabrics and trims for a client's Breakfast Room and Kitchen Area to coordinate with the Family Room area in adjacent to. We also focused on the Master Bedroom accent wall for a fun, yet soothing wall paper, to coordinate with roman shades (black out of course) that would set a precedence for a beautiful Master Bedroom. (Bedrooms are my absolutely favorite room to design.)

We went with a new Villa Nova wall covering, Pattern: Bowood, that has a beautiful, yet very unique, stried pattern in a very soothing mint/eggshell color way.

In contrast, we selected a sophisticated Mark Alexander Linen Blend Fabric for the Roman Shades. Today I met with the Romo rep and he is one of the absolute best in the industry. As a designer, it is extremely important to be able to explain to your clients why fabrics range in price all over the board. For Romo, I love the Mark Alexander line because of its quality and origin. I love a good linen blend with a beautiful embroidery as seen below! I am so looking forward to seeing these installed!

One of my favorite things is being able to work with vendors in Mississippi and use them here in Virginia, especially vendors next door to my home town! Crown Hardware out of Pearl, Mississippi is a hidden treasure for so many reasons. Their custom work abilities, finish selections, customer service, and continual growth and hunger for new designs to service their designers is a gem now-a-days. For my clients' Front Room, we are customizing an iron rod to fit within a bay window and house some beautiful printed linen panels with coordinating roman shades. www.crownrod.com
